JAHSAHNI SANCHEZ

2024 REACH FOR THE STARS SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

AWARD: Ruth E. Miller Book Scholarship

Fall 2024 College: Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)

Jahsani Sandino Sanchez is a 17-year-old recent graduate of Xavier High School who likes running track, working out and hanging out with his friends. He was raised in the Bronx in the Castle Hill, Soundview area however, studied in Washington Heights and Harlem where he attended St. Rose of Lima and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes in 2020. Jahsani is a second generation Dominican-American andcollege student. His immediate family consists of his mother Janice Reyes-Sanchez, father Sandino Sanchez and siblings Hamadi, Hasani and Jahzara. During his time at Xavier, Jahsani participated in several clubs and activities such as The Entrepreneurial and Economics Society, Ping Pong Club, Engineering Club, Cross Country, and Track and Field. He received several awards and accolades such as The Coaches and Iron Man Award for Track and Field as well as various medals. Academically Jahsani achieved first honors, Posse Scholarship Semi-finalist, College Board         National Hispanic and African-American recognition awards. Jahsani was accepted to NYU, University at Buffalo, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Stony Brook, University of Scranton and Rensselaer Polytechnic institute (RPI) and is currently on the waitlist for Cornell University.

In the Fall of 2024 Jahsani will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) where he will be majoring in     Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Aerospace. He looks forward to meeting new people and broadening his horizons. He is thankful for being selected for the scholarship which will be a great investment for his future.
