Amaya is a graduating senior at Monroe-Woodbury High School with 3.8 GPA. She serve as the President of the Rhoer Club, an affiliate of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Service has always been an important part of her life. She has participated in a number of community services but is most passionate about volunteering at the Good Shepherd Church Soup Kitchen, where she prepares and distributes hot meals to the people of Newburgh on a monthly basis. Additionally, she participates in Special Friend’s Day, where she is buddied-up with a special needs child for a day of activities.

Amaya has been a competitive tennis player since age six and has been on the high school varsity tennis team since 7th grade. She has won the OCIAA and NY Section IX doubles championships three times and competed in the New York State championship three times. In her junior year, she joined the track and field team and won the NY Section IX championship for the open 400-meter run twice. She also represented her school in the 4x400 relay at the Penn Relays, New Balance Nationals, and competed in the NYSPHSAA Championship in the 200, 400, and 4x400. Her hobbies include thrifting, collecting vintage jewelry, reading and spending time with friends. This fall, Amaya will be attending Emory University in Atlanta, GA, to study psychology and compete in track and field. After graduation, she plans to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical or forensic psychology or obtain her MD to become a psychiatrist.
